Memorising vision of flooded desert plains looks like an inland sea
Well here’s something you don’t often see.
What you’re looking at here is a video going viral after extreme flooding in Yemen and Oman in the wake of Cyclone Mekunu.
The storm saw roughly three years' worth of rain dumped on the city of Salalah, which copped 278.2mm in a day.
The result was extensive flooding, causing scenes such as the one in the video above.

This one was posted to Reddit with the caption “What a desert looks like during heavy rainfall”.
The camera focuses on the road before panning around, with the surrounds looking more like an inland sea than desert plains.
When the road is in sight, it looks very much like a flood.
But without the context of the road, it’s like something you’d see on one of those weird extra planets in Interstellar.

It’s surreal and kind of mesmerising to watch, which explains why it became so popular.
Reposted by Redditor Morty_Goldman, the clip clocked up more than 1.3 million views on Imgur in just two days.
It’s tough to tell where exactly it was shot and, since it’s a repost, when it was actually filmed, but it’s a pretty good recreation of what it looks like when freak rain events hit.
