Todd Woodbridge’s heartbreaking realisation after tragic loss of his brothers and parents

Exclusive: Todd Woodbridge may be nominated for a coveted Gold Logie, but his latest success comes with a bittersweet realisation.

Away from the spotlight, the 55-year-old faced a difficult past nine years. The TV host and tennis champion lost both his older brothers and later, his parents before Tipping Point made it to air.

“They would love have loved Tipping Point,” Todd reflected in a chat with nine.com.au. “If [my brother] Greg had seen this show, he would have been like, ‘You’re kidding me!’”

Todd had two older brothers, Greg and Warren who “were distant not by choice, but by age”.

They were respectively 13 and 11 years older than Todd. Tragically, both Greg and Warren died at the age of 58.

His oldest brother Greg battled with addiction from early adulthood, something Todd has only spoken about in recent years.

“It was a relief in a way to comfortably talk about that,” Todd admitted.

“Because I had wanted to talk about Greg’s illness of drug addiction, but you’ve got to seek approval for those types of things, and he’d basically given me that approval,” he explained.

“For many years he was worried about people knowing [for Todd’s sake] and what stories it might bring up, but you get to a point where you can explain it.”

Greg eventually got clean but died from health issues related to his addiction in 2017. The following year, in 2018, Todd’s middle brother Warren passed away of bone cancer and fibrosis in the lung.

Todd said the “empathy” he developed through those relationships is what made him the host he is today.

“Any contestant that comes on Tipping Point, I can relate to more than they realise,” he said. “Because everybody has issues.”

“Being able to understand [these contestants] is really important. You don’t get that until you get a bit older and go through these things.”

It was a difficult few years of loss for Todd whose mum Barbara then died in March 2023 after a long battle with dementia.

Both Todd’s mum and dad passed away in their 80s. But if they were here now, Todd’s sure they would be very proud of him.

In fact, they would be “gloating”.

“I can just imagine them down at the bowling club every night sucking it up,” the dad-of-two laughed.

“My mum and dad liked to be at the bowling club a couple of nights a week. I can just imagine people coming up to them and saying, ‘Oh what a show. What about this character?’

“They would have loved it,” he smiled.

Todd may be an Olympic gold medallist but this year he’s nominated for his first-ever Gold Logie award.

The household TV favourite is nominated for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television.

His nomination comes a year after the Tipping Point Australia host won his first Logie, taking home the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter in 2025.
