Homeless dog ‘holds’ new foster mother’s hand during the car ride from shelter

When four-year-old Regan was left at a dog shelter in Tennessee, she was scared and alone.

Her owner had died and she was in a strange place she didn’t understand.

When animal activist Kim Mozena Rezac met her, she was timid and confused.

In a story for the US Today Show, Rezac told journalist Arin Greenwood it took three days to earn the golden retriever’s trust.

“You could tell she was scared and afraid,” Rezac said.

“I would go in and give her treats and sit with her and talk.”

Eventually, Rezac built up a rapport with Regan, who wagged her tail and lit up with she was around.

Regan didn’t react that way with anyone else, so Rezac decided to take the four-year-old in as a foster dog.

And for most of the two-and-a-half-hour car ride back to her place, Regan held Rezac’s hand.

Rezac filmed a short video of the sweet woofer, posting it to Facebook earlier this month.

Since then, the video had been viewed more than 3.4 million times and appeared on a whole bunch of viral news sites.

And while the video melted hearts across the world, it also prompted a great outcome for Regan, who was been taken in by a new couple.

Rezac said the couple are currently just fostering Regan, but are intent on adopting her.
