Dog nearly burns down family home trying to sneak leftover pancakes

The consequences for a love of pancakes are usually limited to little bit of extra padding around the middle.

But in this case, it could have burned down a whole house.

When their humans left a few uneaten pancakes sitting in the frying pan on the stovetop, the smell was irresistible to the two gold retrievers chilling at their family home in Massachusetts, US.

So one of them went up sneak a few bites.

Normally this might be a little annoying the two owners when they arrived home to find their pancakes gone, but it would otherwise been harmless.

Unfortunately, the hungry woofer ignited the burner with its paw while grabbing the treat.

And as you’ll see from this video shot on a security camera, it didn’t take long for the pan to catch fire and the room to fill with smoke.

It was shared to the Southwick Fire Department Facebook page last week, attracting more than 30,000 views and getting a nod on the local NBC news.

Thankfully, the family’s smoke alarms were connected to a broader monitoring system, which alerted authorities to the situation.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to put out the blaze before it spread and caused more damage to the home.

The footage was shared as a reminder about the effectiveness of fire alarms and the need to put safety covers on stovetops for those with small children and pets.
