Why Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively kept birth of third child secret for two months

Fans didn't know that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were expecting their third child until she rocked a baby bump at the premiere of his movie, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, back in May.

And true to form, the couple also kept the birth of said child secret until two months after the baby was born. But according to Us Weekly, this was nothing out of the ordinary for the high-profile pair, who also share daughters James, four, and Inez, three.

"They do everything they can to make sure [the kids] have a normal upbringing," said the source.

In a previous interview with Marie Claire, Lively explained that she and Reynolds, 42, stayed quiet about their pregnancies and births because they want to keep their children away from the spotlight.

"Ryan had a nice, normal upbringing, and we want our kids to have the same normal life that we had," the 32-year-old told the mag. "We don't ever want to rob them of what we had because then we'd feel really selfish.

"All my eggs are in one basket, and that's my family. That's where my heart is. That's where my everything is," she added. "That's the thing that I feel most protective of and the thing that I feel is the most exposed when I feel exploited."

The couple have yet to release the name or gender of their third child. They haven't released the exact date the baby arrived either, but sources recalled that about two months ago Reynolds mysteriously disappeared for a significant amount of time from the set of his new movie.

"Ryan left the set he was working [on] for about eight days," said the Us Weekly source.

Lively and Reynolds — who met on the set of Green Lantern in 2010 — tied the knot in 2012 after one year of dating. The actor was previously married to Scarlett Johansson from 2008 to 2011.
