For the first time in The Bachelor and The Bachelorette history, Osher Gunsberg will not appear in the final episode.

In the six years that franchise has run in Australia, the host has been there to coach the suitors and suitresses through their final moments before greeting both the winner and runners-up during decision time.

However, for Bachelorette Angie Kent's finale, which will air Thursday, Australia's answer to Cupid will not be around to support her.

After filming a season together, Osher Gunsberg will leave Angie Kent for the finale  Instagram

Gunsberg tells The Daily Telegraph he had to make the tough decision to leave Kent in her final days of filming because his wife Audrey Griffen was going into labour!

"In the last week of filming, Audrey had contractions seven minutes apart, so it was going to happen at any moment," he explained.

"I was getting nervous while hanging around the mansion and my executive producer… took one look at me and said, 'Osh, you can't miss this. It will be the best day of your life. Don't worry we will make it happen."

The production team on set put their heads together to come up with a new finale format that would allow Gunsberg to be there for the birth of his son, Wolfgang.

"Everyone banded together and figured out a way to make the show work without me being there for the final moments."

Wolfie was born Friday, August 23, and while Gunsberg is a proud dad and over the moon to have been there for the arrival of his son, he admits it is "odd not to be there" in the finale.

"It is the moment they go off into the wild, and I really like to give them a hug and tell them I am happy for them," he confesses.

"But I am sure I will catch up with everyone once the outcome is out there."
