Watch: <i>The Slap</i> US remake trailer is here… featuring Uma Thurman and Melissa George

It's one of the most talked-about Australian novels and mini-series in recent years and now we've got the first glimpse at the US remake of Christos Tsiolkas' The Slap.

NBC has released the first full-length trailer, which features Aussie Melissa George in the same role she made famous in ABC's acclaimed 2011 mini-series.

This time she's joined by a selection of familiar Hollywood faces: Uma Thurman, Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton and Star Trek's Zachary Quinto in a role very, very different to Spock. Watch above.

The Slap kicks off with a man slapping another person's child at a backyard barbecue, sparking a series of events that change the lives of all involved.

Melissa, 38, told US media this week she'd been "watching the casting" of the US Slap for a year.

"I was like, who is going to play Rosie, who is going to play Rosie? This is my girl. This is my woman. I want her to come home," Melissa said at a press conference.

Zachary Quinto told Entertainment Weekly just how difficult it was to film the iconic "slap" scene.

"It was a big scene with a lot of technical elements to it and the thing that was most important to everyone was the safety of the kids," he said.

"There was clear communication with the kids. And then all the explosive anger and emotions was done without the kids there. It was really well handled."

The Slap premieres on NBC on February 12. An Australian air date is yet to be confirmed.
