Waleed Aly rips into the Kardashians after Forbes' story about Kylie Jenner's success

Just last month, Waleed Aly slammed Kim Kardashian's role in the release of convicted drug trafficker Alice Marie Johnson.

It's this "self-made" label that 39-year-old Aly takes issue with. Because, if anything, Jenner, 20, grew up in a famous family and used the money she had earned from their popular reality program, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, to help fund her cosmetics company.

"So in what way is she self made?" Aly asked the panel on Thursday night's episode. "She didn't have a lemonade stall somewhere and build it up."

The Project co-host, Tommy Little, 33, came to Jenner's defence, accusing  Aly of "knocking her down because she's young."

"That's not why I'm knocking her down," Aly replied. "I'm knocking her down because she is part of an empire that doesn't do anything."

Aly isn't alone in his thoughts about Jenner being "self-made." Yesterday, after Forbes released their August issue with the makeup mogul on the cover, the magazine copped some major backlash for their choice of words.

"Calling kylie jenner a 'self-made billionaire' is like claiming you made soup from scratch because you opened a can and reheated it," tweeted one, while another wrote, "This is the problem with talking about successful people in America. We act like they did it by themselves when that's never the case. And, with people like the Kardashians/Jenners, they were always rich."

Even well-respected American author and feminist Roxane Gay chimed in.

"It is not shade to point out that Kylie Jenner isn't self-made. She grew up in a wealthy, famous family. Her success is commendable but it comes by virtue of her privilege," Gay tweeted. "Words have meanings and it behooves a dictionary to remind us of that."
