Tommy Lee slams US radio host Howard Stern, who claimed Lee drove ex-wife Heather Locklear to recent troubles

Rocker Tommy Lee has shot back at an accusation made by US radio host Howard Stern that he's to blame for the recent troubles of his ex-wife, actress Heather Locklear.

Locklear, 56, has been hospitalised twice in the past week, most recently for a "potential overdose." She was reportedly taken to the hospital for psychological evaluation the week prior after allegedly threatening to take her own life in a violent clash with her parents. She was has been hospitalised twice at her Los Angeles-area home for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

On his radio show this week, Stern was reported to have said of Locklear: "You know what drove this woman crazy? She was married to Tommy Lee and [Bon Jovi guitarist] Richie Sambora… they made her f--king insane."

Lee, 55, took to Twitter to rebuke Stern's comments about his marriage to Locklear, which lasted from 1986 until 1993.

"@HowardStern Queen of media! How dare you blame me for Heather's recent troubles! That was like 24 years ago you idiot! #cowardsterntimewarp" the Mötley Crüe drummer tweeted.

"You should be wishing her well and not bashing me f--khead!!! Wtf is wrong with you? I normally don't respond to this stuff... f--king BS!!" he concluded.

Lee shared no children with Locklear. He is currently engaged to model Brittany Furlan.

This isn't the first time Lee has exploded on social media in recent weeks. He has been embroiled in a feud with his 22-year-old son Brandon, whom he shares with ex-wife Pamela Anderson. Brandon has lashed out at his father, claiming that Tommy is an abusive, absentee father.

Brandon recently posted a video of an unconscious Tommy laying on the floor the night they had a physical altercation back in March. Tommy responded on US Father's Day, by revealing on social media he paid $130,000 USD ($176,000 AUD) for Brandon's rehab, among other expenses.

Lee has previously said the he felt like he "failed as a father" because Brandon and his other son with Anderson, 20-year-old Dylan, were ungrateful "a--holes."
