Tom Hiddleston's awkward reaction to joke made about ex Taylor Swift caught on camera

Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift dated for about three months in 2016, but it's not a relationship that people have forgotten about.

The actor was caught on camera during an awkward moment at the 2024 People's Choice Awards, taken off-guard at a joke made about his ex-girlfriend. 

Whilst host Simu Liu made a joke about Swift during his opening monologue at the award show, the cameras panned to Hiddleston – who is engaged to and shares a child with Zawe Ashton.

Liu was discussing the undeniable way in which Swift has dominated pop culture in the past year, thanks to her record-breaking The Eras Tour and her relationship with Kansas City Chief tight end, Travis Kelce. 

"Finally, for the most iconic pop culture moment of the year, who could forget that one little movie about a blonde American icon that had the entire country dressing up, dancing the night away, and making huge waves at the box office," Liu said, initially insinuating he was referencing Barbie, which he starred in. 

He then said: "I'm talking of course about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie."

He added: "Oh, I'm sorry, did you think I was gonna say the other – no, no. Look, I was a Swiftie long before I was Ken. OK?

"Just wanted to be super clear [about] where my loyalties lay. I'm a 1989 baby so Taylor and I, we're bonding."

Just as Liu made this joke about being connected to Swift, the camera panned to Hiddleston, appearing to laugh at the moment.

Swift and Hiddleston began dating in 2016, after meeting at the Met Gala, just after the pop princess had split from Calvin Harris. 

The pair split in the same year, despite various romantic holidays to Hiddleston's home, in England and Swift's homes in Nashville and Rhode Island.

Swifties have long believed that her song Getaway Car, from her 2017 album Reputation, is about the Loki star.

Lyrics include: "Think about the place you first met me" and how "the ties were black, the lies were white," in reference to the pair meeting at the Met Gala.

Hiddleston has previously had nothing but positive things to say about Swift, telling GQ in 2017, "Taylor is an amazing woman. She's generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time."
