Silicon Valley's Thomas Middleditch splits from his wife Mollie Gates after four years of marriage

Thomas Middleditch — best known for playing Hendricks on Silicon Valley from 2014 to 2019 — has split from his wife Mollie Gates after four years of marriage.

In court documents obtained by People, the former couple's separation was listed on May 22 and cited irreconcilable differences.

A source close to the estranged couple told the outlet, "They still care deeply for each other and will move forward as friends."

According to the documents, Gates, 32, is seeking spousal support from the 38-year-old actor.

Just last year, the Canadian actor told Playboy that they had entered an open relationship in an effort to save their marriage.

"Only after I got married was I like, 'Mollie, I'm sorry, but we have to get nontraditional here,'" he told the outlet.

"To her credit, instead of saying "f--- you, I'm out,' she was like, 'let's figure this out.' To be honest, swinging has saved our marriage."

He added, "We have different speeds, and we argue over it constantly, but it's better than feeling unheard and alone and that you have to scurry in the shadows. By the way, it's now called being 'part of the lifestyle.' The term swinging is old."

After the article was published, Middleditch expressed remorse to The Daily Beast for sharing such personal information about their relationship with the press.

"To be honest, it's a thing I wish I could take back. It was poor execution," he said.

"But I've learned to keep things a little more close to the chest. It was a painful [learning experience], to be honest."

Middleditch and Gates got engaged in June 2015 and were married in Canada by August that same year.

The couple share no children together.
