'The Happytime Murders' stars Phil and Goofer reveal the crazy secret lives of puppets

The Happytime Murders is definitely unlike anything you've seen before. And we mean that in the best way possible.

For starters, the R-rated comedy, playing in Australian cinemas now, follows the grisly story of puppets from a fictional children's TV show (which, interestingly, is pretty similar to the one you probably watched as a kid) called The Happytime Gang that are brutally murdered, one by one.

Then, it's up to Phil Phillips (also a puppet, voiced by Bill Barretta), a disgraced Los Angeles Police Department detective-turned-private investigator to stop the killer before it's too late by re-teaming with his ex-partner, Detective Connie Edwards (a very human Melissa McCarthy).

And when you throw in Goofer (voiced by Drew Massey), the fallen, sugar-addicted Happytime Gang star who has resorted to living on the streets, performing sexual favours to get his saccharine fix, it's easy to see why the film's totally NSFW red band trailer has amassed more than 3 million views on YouTube.

Because she couldn't resist meeting these guys in person, TheFIX's Britt Middleton sat down with Phil and Goofer in Los Angeles recently to chat about the raucous new comedy (watch the video, at top).

If that's not enough to pique your interest, the film also has an A-list cast -- both as humans and puppet counterparts -- that includes Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect), Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live), and Joel McHale (Community).
