Mmm Whatcha Say

When The OC's Marissa (Mischa Barton) fatally shot Ryan's brother Trey (Logan Marshall-Green) to the tune of and Imogen Heap's 2005 folktronica pop song 'Hide and Seek', an iconic television moment was born. Check it out in the video above. 

The scene was later satirised on Saturday Night Live, and the song went on to be used in countless YouTube videos to soundtrack a pivotal action that cannot be undone.

Dawson Crying

Taken from an episode of Dawson's Creek featuring Van Der Beek spectacularly ugly-crying after an awkward conversation with Katie Holmes' Joey, this meme is how many millennials recognise the actor today.

Yep, Dawson's sad face lives on 20 years after it first wept on camera in the form of this everlasting GIF.

Conspiracy Keanu

What if Keanu Reeves, noted Gen X movie icon, came back in meme form to mess with our minds? Well, it's happened you guys.

A still photo of the iconic actor from the 1989 comedy film Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure resurfaced a few years ago, but with hilarious conspiracy commentary such as, "What if soy milk is just regular milk, introducing himself in Spanish?", "What if this planet is a reality TV show for other planets?" and "What if going to sleep is waking up in real life?"

Woah, mind blown.

Treat Yo Self

A 2011 episode of Parks and Recreation is responsible for spawning one of the greatest ever catch-phrases.

In the ep, Donna, played by Retta, and Tom (Aziz Ansari), spend the day treating themselves to fancy lunches, clothing, and cupcakes.

The term "Treat Yo Self" has since appeared in meme form, on t-shirts, mugs, keyrings, and phone cases.

One does not simply walk into Mordor

When Sean Bean uttered the phrase "One does not simply walk into Mordor", he essentially created a movement.

The line from Peter Jackson's 2001 film adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring features the character Boromir warning the Council of about the dangers of Mordor.

Now, it's been re-appropriated all over the internet.   

In the US, Google Maps even implemented a reminder that one cannot simply walk into Mordor on their walking directions from a place in Wisconsin called the Shire to an address marked as Mordor in Illinois. 

Morpheus from The Matrix

Similar to "conspiracy Keanu", Morpheus from The Matrix (played by Lawrence Fishburne) is dropping truth bombs all over the internet with the line, "What if I told you…"

While those exact words were never heard in any of the Matrix movies, it's believed that the meme is a paraphrased interpretation of a scene in which Morpheus informs Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) that he lives in is a computer simulation.
