A major magazine has had to apologise for printing fake Lili Reinhart interview

US magazine Seventeen published an article last week about an interview they did with Lili Reinhart — but it turns out that it was actually just an impostor.

The magazine has had to share an apology to Reinhart and its readers after being duped by a mystery person who pretended to be Reinhart in an interview.

The impersonator told them fake details about what fan can expect in the upcoming season of Riverdale — quotes which began rapidly spreading around the internet.

"Today, we briefly published a story with information we were lead to believe was from Lili Reinhart. However, it was brought to our attention that the person who contacted us was, in fact, an impersonator and had no connection to the Riverdale star," Seventeen said in a statement.

"We want to sincerely apologise to Lili and her fans for this unfortunate situation," the article continued. "We reacted swiftly by removing the story from our site and regret the erroneous reporting. We take full responsibility and will be internally reviewing our editorial and fact-checking processes to ensure something like this does not happen again."

Reinhart took to her Instagram Stories, where she shared the statement and wrote some words of her own to her 26 million followers.

She said, "For some bizarre reason, someone impersonated me in an interview with Seventeen. Nothing inappropriate was said, but those were not my words and I wanted to address it."
