Brisbane radio presenter Sammy Power dies at age 55

Radio presenter turned Brisbane farmers market owner Sammy Power has died at age 55.

The former Triple M host's death was confirmed by friends on Monday after she was found in her bedroom in Hendra.

Power's family issued a statement to 9Honey Celebrity addressing the loss.

"Sammy Power was a colourful, funny, and gregarious person whose greatest quality was her unbridled generosity and kind heart," the statement reads. "Sammy saw the good in everyone and brought colour, vibrancy and a sharp wit to every conversation and every situation. She was creative and absolutely unique, something that is truly rare.

"She is survived by her mother Jan, father John, sister Astrid and nieces Emily, Olivia and India, all of who are shocked and overwhelmed by her loss. They respectfully ask that all speculation and comment cease in regards to her cause of death and that the family is allowed to grieve privately at this time.

"The cause of Sammy's death remains under investigation."

Power dominated the Triple M airwaves for 28 years and later moved to Mix FM in Sydney (now Kiss FM).

Power — whose death was initially confirmed by The Courier Mail — previously told the publication that she'd ended her radio career due to feeling "burnt out" and "over it."

She returned to Brisbane to run the successful Brisbane farmer markets with her mother, Jan Power in her later years.

Tributes have already poured in for the beloved radio talent from close friends.

"First Gary Ord and now Sammy Power. We've lost two Brisbane breakfast radio presenters within a week. Stunned," former radio presenter Spencer Howson tweeted.

"Very shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Sammy Power," ABC Brisbane breakfast radio host Loretta Ryan tweeted.

"I can still hear her talking about her cats and her infectious laugh."

"RIP Sammy Power. Sammy was a radio star and a trailblazer. I met her about 15 years ago and she was instantly nice ... Thanks for the laughs, Sammy," Nine Presenter Ben Fordham tweeted.
