'Scrubs' star Sam Lloyd has been diagnosed with cancer

Friends of Sam Lloyd are sending the former Scrubs star strength as he battles an aggressive cancer diagnosis.

A GoFundMe campaign launched on February 4 by The Hoberts revealed that the 55-year-old actor and playwright was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor, and sadly, the cancer has spread to other parts of his body.

The heartbreaking news comes shortly after he welcomed son Weston with his wife Vanessa.

As an actor, Lloyd played beloved lawyer Ted on the hit medical dramedy Scrubs, which originally aired from 2001 until 2010. Lloyd recently celebrated that the musical he had been working on for over a decade was accepted into a prestigious theatre accelerator program.

"Midway through January, Sam began to experience headaches and he had lost 10 pounds," the GoFundMe post reads.

"He figured the headaches were caused by the lack of sleep that came along with his new role as Daddy, and the weight loss seemed like it could easily be the byproduct of a busy schedule – Sam had spent the better part of 2018 going back and forth to Vermont to care for his ailing mother, Marianna. He helped her make the move to assisted living and he cleaned out the family home of 50+ years – no small task, indeed."

After a doctor ordered a CT scan, it was discovered Lloyd had a mass on his brain.

"Within a day, he was in brain surgery. Unfortunately the tumor was too intertwined so the surgeons couldn't remove it. By Sunday, Sam and Vanessa were informed that the cancer in his brain had metastasized from his lungs. Further scans showed the cancer was also in his liver, spine, and jaw," the post continued.

Despite the uncertain road ahead, Lloyd appeared to be in high spirits during Super Bowl Sunday, where he was seen cheering on his beloved New England Patriots from his hospital bed, surrounded by loved ones.

The fundraising campaign has asked for donations of US$100,000 to cover "a range of medical, childcare, and other expenses" for the family during this difficult time.

"Every prayer, every positive thought, every dollar, and every gesture of support is greatly appreciated," the message concluded.

As of February 6 7:11 a.m. AEDT, the campaign has raised more than US$27,700.
