Robert Irwin makes Logies hosting debut with some scaly friends by his side

Robert Irwin has kicked off Aussie TV’s night of nights as the host of the 2026 TV Week Logies and he’s brought along some of his friends to help with the gig.

Irwin shocked the audience halfway through the ceremony when he stood in the crowd and ripped his tuxedo off to reveal his Australia Zoo khakis as he introduced some scaly friends.

He started by introducing a blue-tongued lizard to a rather unimpressed Simon Baker, before handing the animal off to Dr Chris Brown.

Next, he stepped things up with a snake. A very brave Denise Scott got up close and personal with the reptile, even describing it as “cute”.

Irwin took the opportunity to spread his message on wildlife conservation, as Sam Pang boldly exclaimed, “mate if that bites me, I’ll sue you”.

He then left the snake on Pang’s table before he introduced the next guest – potentially a first in Logies history?

Then, it got serious with a fully grown Olive Python, one of Australia’s largest snakes according to Irwin.

The audience members noticeably recoiled as Irwin walked around the room with the snake before placing it around the shoulders of Luke McGregor who appeared to be paralysed with fear as the snake wrapped around its neck and slithered toward Amanda Keller.

Irwin brought the animals along to honour his dad, Steve Irwin’s legacy. In 2003 Irwin brought a live carpet snake on stage at the Logies, resulting in the unforgettable moment that sports broadcaster Tim Webster was bitten on the thigh.

Earlier in the night, Irwin delivered what we’re sure is set to go down as one of the most iconic monologues in Logies history.

In true Aussie fashion, it all kicked off with a pre-taped segment with a quick visit from Aussie royalty Russel Coight, who was kind enough to give Irwin (a rather chaotic) ride to the event – only after he ‘ran him over’ with the car.

Then, in a surprise to no one, things kicked off into a major musical number honouring Irwin’s recent sting on Dancing with the Stars.

Casey Donovan took to the stage to show off her killer vocals when Irwin appeared in a sparkling black jumpsuit to show off his newfound moves.

It’s safe to say, the Logies hasn’t seen anything like this before.

Logies 2026 as it happened: The biggest moments from Australia’s night of nights

The crowd erupted in applause for the 22-year-old before he greeted everyone with a classic “G’day”.

Irwin couldn’t stop himself from letting out a little giggle as he acknowledged how “cool” it is to be on the stage as the youngest-ever host of the Logies.

“I grew up watching this ceremony. My mum would let me stay up way past my bedtime. I’d sit there in front of the telly, wide-eyed, just thinking, ’Gee, Sam Pang is hilarious,” he joked.

“Initially, I wasn’t sure that I was the right fit for this gig. The Logies is not quite my natural habitat, you know. I tend to spend my time amongst apex predators, venomous snakes, in an environment that’s constantly under threat. I think we’ll bring it home here. I think we’ll be all right.”

While the Logies monologue often pokes fun at the attendees, Irwin decided to take the high road saying that he prefers to look on the bright side of life rather than the cynical.

But, he did take a dig at a few Aussie TV names, including Big Brother, Dave Hughes, and none other than Karl Stevanović.

He kept it short, sweet, and just the right amount of sassy before kicking things off with the first award.
