Piers Morgan reveals COVID-19 diagnosis despite being fully vaccinated

Controversial British broadcaster Piers Morgan has revealed he has COVID-19.

Although the 56-year-old is fully vaccinated after having both doses of AstraZeneca, he believes he caught the coronavirus at the Euro 2020 football final at Wembley Stadium two weeks ago.

The former Good Morning Britain host says that he caught COVID-19 after large crowds of ticketless fans swarmed the game's venue — attendees of the event had previously been officially assured that only fully-vaccinated spectators, or those with negative COVID-19 test results, could attend.

In an essay for Mail on Sunday, Morgan said it's the "roughest [he's] felt" from an illness as an adult.

Two days after the game, he started having symptoms of COVID-19, including chills as well as a raging fever, violent coughing and sneezing fits — so he took a lateral flow test and PCR test, which confirmed he has COVID-19.

Morgan says he is now recovered from the symptoms, which also included "strange aches," but his voice is low-pitched.

"My voice now sounds like Barry White, though I couldn't feel less like a Walrus of Love," he wrote for the publication.

"This is definitely the roughest I've felt from any illness in my adult life, but, as I slowly come out the other side, coughing and spluttering.

"I'm still here — unlike so many millions around the world who've lost their lives to [COVID-19] in this pandemic."

Morgan credits the vaccine for his recovery, and says he "[owes] a heartfelt debt of thanks" to the scientists who created it.
