Oscars 2020: Eminem performs Lose Yourself in surprise appearance

Eminem took to the stage in a surprise performance at the 2020 Oscars.

The rapper appeared on stage after a medley of iconic movie hits was played on the big screen. Songs such as 'I Will Always Love You' from The Bodyguard, 'Unchained Melody' from Ghost, and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' from Wayne's World were all featured in the video montage, which ended with Eminem's hit, 'Lose Yourself'.

It was in 2003 that the singer won a Best Original Song for the track, which was the theme song from his movie 8 Mile.

While many in the star-studded crowd were on their feet throughout Eminem's performance, it appears director Martin Scorsese remained firmly in his seat, with the Hollywood heavyweight appearing to fall asleep.

"Martin Scorcese literally sleeping through Eminem's performance," pointed out one Twitter user.

Idina Menzel was just as underwhelmed, judging by her reaction, as was fellow singer Billie Eilish and her producer brother, Finneas O'Connell.

Interestingly, Eminem refused to sing the song at the Oscars back in 2003 after he was instructed to perform a censored version of it at the ceremony.

In fact, he decided against attending the 2003 show altogether.
