NXIVM halts operations following Allison Mack's sex trafficking charge

Controversial self-help group NXIVM has temporarily shut down shop after key member Allison Mack was arrested and charged for sex trafficking.
 
In a message "to members" on their website, the organisation stated "with deep sadness" that they are suspending all activity "until further notice."   
 
The note continued: "While we are disappointed by the interruption of our operations, we believe it is warranted by the extraordinary circumstances facing the company at this time."
 
NXIVM (pronounced nexium) allegedly housed a secret society called DOS, reported to stand for "dominus obsequious sororium" (translated from Latin as the "master over the slave women").
 
The group's New York headquarters were raided by federal police in March, with 57-year-old leader Keith Raniere subsequently being arrested in Mexico.

Mack, 35, was outed as a key member of the group in 2017, and allegedly used her celebrity status to recruit other young women in the bizarre S&M cult that posed as an organisation offering self-help seminars.

Women in this inner group, also known as 'The Vow', reportedly became sex slaves and had their pubic bones branded with Raniere and Mack's initials (KR and AM).
