Noah Kahan fights back tears on-stage, sparking a feud among fans

Noah Kahan fans have seemingly turned on each other after clips of him desperately fighting back tears while performing his song Dan went viral.

The song was a late addition to the set list after fans online begged Kahan to perform it. However, some now argue that Kahan was “bullied” into performing the song, and Kahan has been forced to make a statement on the subject.

Kahan’s The Great Divide tour kicked off in Orlando, with the star set to perform two nights in the city.

Following the first night’s performance, fans took to social media to air their grievances about certain hits missing from the set list, in particular Dan and Willing and Able.

The following night, Kahan took to the stage and added both songs to the set list. He performed Dan toward the end of the night, appearing to be desperately fighting back tears as he struggled to make it through the song.

The song explores Kahan’s enduring friendship with his childhood friend Dan, as well as their shared experience of losing their friend, Carlo.

“There was clearly a reason he didn’t want to have this on the set list originally. I feel bad for him,” one fan wrote in the comments.

“I hope someone hugged him after last night cause this poor man gave everyone what they wanted it but at what cost,” added another.

The comments section on several videos of the moment were flooded by fans pointing out that in Kahan’s recent documentary, he said that the first thing he does after a show is look at social media to see the fan reaction.

Fans implied that Kahan had clearly seen the response to songs missing from opening night, and had added them in an attempt to keep concert-goers happy.

The argument seemed to incite a feud among Kahan’s followers, with many claiming that those who criticised the original set list had “bullied” Kahan into adding songs when he clearly didn’t want to, and others arguing that Kahan has free will to do only as he pleases.

The online argument went so far that Kahan had to take to social media to make a statement clearing things up.

“I’ll do anything for my fans,” he wrote on X.

“I don’t feel disrespected I feel honored that you guys have such intense connections to certain songs. Don’t worry yall.”

Performing at Bonnaroo two days after his second night in Orlando, Kahan did not perform Dan, so it’s unclear if it will be a permanent addition to the set list.

“Everybody’s asleep, let’s talk about him / Let’s talk about high school, talk about death / Talk about the long ride home from the grave,” Kahan sings in the opening lines of the song Dan.

Kahan first memorialised Carlo with the track Carlo’s Song included on his debut album, Busyhead.
