Everything we know about the Nine Perfect Strangers TV show

In early 2020, it was announced that another Liane Moriarty book, Nine Perfect Strangers, would be adapted into a TV series set to air in 2021. Moriarty's earlier novel Big Little Lies was adapted into a miniseries by HBO and became a huge hit, making the Australian author known around the world.

Released in 2018, Nine Perfect Strangers is a New York Times bestselling book that is packed with suspense, and a page-turning mystery that'll translate perfectly into a miniseries.

Nicole Kidman, who also appeared in Big Little Lies, is set to star as a main character, along with Melissa McCarthy and other Australian actors.

What is the plot for Nine Perfect Strangers?

The book follows nine Australians –– from all walks of life –– who spend 10 days together at a remote health retreat in the bush. They're all there with the lofty goal of detoxing their bodies and minds.

A mysterious yet charismatic Russian woman, Masha, runs the retreat. The book is told from the perspective of romance novelist Frances Welty, who quickly learns that everyone there has some hidden secrets.

Melissa McCarthy was cast as Frances, the show's protagonist, and Nicole Kidman plays Masha.

It was later announced Nine Perfect Strangers found its final "perfect" stranger in Boardwalk Empire star Bobby Cannavale, husband to Australian actress Rose Byrne. They were spotted in Byron Bay the day before filming commenced last August. Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy and her family were also photographed in town around the same time.

When did filming start for Nine Perfect Strangers?

Filming began in Byron Bay on August 10 and continued for 19 weeks. It officially wrapped in December, with Kidman marking the moment on Instagram.

"That's a wrap on #NinePerfectStrangers with my co-star @MelissaMcCarthy 🎬," she captioned a snap of them sitting on the grass.

"Sending big love and infinite thanks to all cast and all the crew who made this possible in 2020, WOW 💚 Coming to you in 2021 xx."

McCarthy then commented, "Two people, the exact same height, saying farewell to 2020 with a wrap on Nine Perfect Strangers."

When will Nine Perfect Strangers be released?

There is no official release date for Nine Perfect Strangers yet, but it's slated for to debut in the US on Hulu in 2021.
