Here's our first look at Nicole Kidman in the new 'Aquaman' movie

It's Nicole Kidman as you've never seen her before.

This month's Entertainment Weekly cover gave fans a first look of the new Aquaman blockbuster, which sees the Aussie actress reign as Queen Atlanna alongside Jason Momoa and Amber Heard.

"The reason why I love [Aquaman] is [director] James Wan is an Australian, and I've followed his career since he started. He's a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna," Kidman told EW in March.

While her stunning transformation as Queen of Atlantis may seem out of the blue to some, 50-year-old Kidman is actually one to seek roles that allow her to completely morph into someone else.

"As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I'm done," she said. "Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. Because, you've got to have some fun."

She sure is having fun experimenting with different looks on film sets -- the actress is known to undergo both extreme makeovers and makeunders for roles. In the other two dramas she has out this year, Destroyer and The Goldfinch, Kidman is far removed from her Hollywood persona thanks to a ton of prosthetics and makeup.

"I'm crazy and I will continue to be crazy until I am an old woman," she told UK site The Upcoming. "I always say, 'Why not?' instead of overthinking things."

Kidman's role in Aquaman marks her return to the DC superhero franchise. In 1995, she starred in Batman Forever, playing Bruce Wayne's (Val Kilmer) girlfriend Dr Chase Meridian.
