Nicolas Cage reflects on his four marriages prior to marrying Riko Shibata: 'I got it right this time'

Nicolas Cage has reflected on his many marriages in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times.

In a candid interview, the 58-year-old actor said although he has made the trip down the aisle five times, his current union with wife Riko Shibata just feels right.

"I'm really happily married," he told the Los Angeles Times. "I know five is a lot. But I think I got it right this time."

The couple were married one year after dating, tying the knot at the Wynn resort in Las Vegas last year on February 16 — the day of his late father August Coppola's birthday.

In an August 2020 interview on his brother's radio show Marc 'The Cope' Coppola, Cage revealed he had proposed to Shibata, 27, via FaceTime and sent her engagement ring to Japan via FedEx.

"She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven't seen her for six months," Cage said on the program.

"We're really happy together and we're really excited to spend that time together. So I finally just said, 'Look, I wanna marry you,' and we got engaged on FaceTime."

They are now expecting their first child together.

Cage has two other children from previous marriages. He shares son Weston, 31, with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton and another son Kal-El Cage, 16, with ex-wife Alice Kim. 

The actor was also married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001, Lisa Marie Presley from 2002 to 2004 and makeup artist Erika Koike for four days in March 2019. They were officially divorced by June 2019.
