Nicolas Cage confesses having three kids with three different women was never in his life plan

Nicolas Cage has confessed that having three kids from three different women wasn't always his plan. 

The actor spoke with The New Yorker about his relationship with his children, candidly discussing his daughter August Francesca, one, and sons Kal-El, 18, and Weston, 33.

Cage shares August with his fifth wife, Riko Shibata, Kal-El with his third wife, Alice Kim and Weston with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton.

"They're all different experiences. Each one has a different mother," he said.

"It's not what I had originally thought would happen when I fell in love or got married – that I would have three different children with three different mums – but nonetheless, that's what's happened," Cage said.

"So every child is different. There's a different kind of level of attention."

Cage shared that his "adorable" daughter will be turning two in September, revealing what parenting a baby has been like. 

"I've been very immersed in raising my daughter… So sleep is gone."

August is Cage's first daughter, and he says it has been an adjustment: "This is all different levels of worry and protection and taking it into overdrive."

The Longlegs star added that being a father has shaped his personality. 

"Being a dad — to me, it's not an art form, it's. . . How do I put this? It's like breathing. Everything is about her. You know, I can make a movie or not make a movie. I can't stop being a dad. With her, it's life. It's my survival," he explained.

Speaking to Access Hollywood in April 2022, Cage shared that he's "extremely excited" to raise another child now that his sons are older.

"My boys are all grown up, and I miss going to the toy store. I miss singing lullabies and rocking in the rocking chair," he said. "I'm looking forward to getting back to that."
