Miley Cyrus was the one who ended things with Liam Hemsworth

New details have emerged surrounding Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's shock split announcement over the weekend.

The couple broke the news of their separation on Sunday after eight months of marriage — and now, according to new reports, it's believed that it was 26-year-old Cyrus who called it quits.

"Miley was the one who ended things with Liam," a source told Us Weekly. "They haven't been together for months."

Despite this, Cyrus was willing to make their marriage work. Another source told People magazine that the singer wanted to go to therapy if it meant saving her marriage to the 29-year-old Aussie actor. 

"[She] really fought to make it work," said the source. "She wanted to go to therapy. She just wants to be in a healthy and focused place."

But now it seems Cyrus has moved on with reality star Kaitlynn Carter, who she was spotted making out with one day after announcing her split.

Like Cyrus, Carter recently ended her one-year marriage to The Hills: New Beginnings co-star Brody Jenner. In a plot twist, it was Jenner who apparently introduced the women one year ago.

According to the source, Jenner "remains friends with Kaitlynn, Miley and Liam," and spoke to all of them, separately, over the weekend.

"He still cares deeply for [Kaitlynn] and his friendships with [Miley and Liam]," the source says. "He wants everyone to be happy and live their best lives."
