Former Olympian Michael Klim shares selfie from hospital bed after undergoing procedure to remove cyst from his throat

Olympic gold medallist Michael Klim has revealed he underwent a procedure to remove a cyst in his throat this week. 

The Aussie swimmer shared photos and videos from his hospital bed at the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, a prominent cancer treatment centre in Sydney's Camperdown.

"Another procedure done this time to remove a cyst in my throat," Klim said of his selfie, before joking, "Enjoying the pain relief!"

In the photo, the 43-year-old could be seen with a small bandage on his throat that's attached to a tube. In a separate video, Klim shared footage of himself hooked up to a machine by his hospital bed, where he will remain for the time being.

"My view for the next day or so," he captioned the clip.

In follow-up posts, Klim revealed his girlfriend Michelle Owen was by his side, nursing him back to health. 

"My nurse has arrived, I'm a lucky man," he said of one video where Owen helps him drink from a straw.

The DJ and producer also shared an image of Klim hospital on her own Instagram, writing, "Get well soon lover."

Klim — who shares three children with his ex-wife Lindy Rama Ellis — was also hospitalised in January 2020 after reportedly breaking his leg.

To this day, Kim remains one of Australia's most beloved athletes. He participated in three Olympic Games in his career — Atlanta in 1996, Athens in 2004 and Sydney in 2000, where he won gold in front of his home crowd.

"It seems like such a long time ago, especially now we've been able to reminisce about those special moments, in particular, the relay wins and we've just realised how special it was," Klim told 9Honey Celebrity last year as he marked 20 years since the Sydney Olympic Games. 

"I think the older we get the more sentimental and nostalgic we become and as everyone realises those two and a half weeks for the Sydney Olympics were a pretty amazing time for all Aussies and everyone watching."
