Stranger Things star Maya Hawke hilariously roasts dad Ethan Hawke over viral moment involving Rihanna

Father's Day in the US came and went this weekend, but Maya Hawke's hilarious tribute to her famous father, Ethan Hawke, is still top of mind.

Fans can't get over the shade Maya – who currently stars in Stranger Things – threw in the 51-year-old actor's direction when she shared a meme roasting him.

For context, Hawke made headlines back in 2015 when he took his son, Levon, now 20, to a NBA All-Stars Game in New York City. Also at the game was singer Rihanna, who was seated on one side of Levon, with Hawke on the other.

However, the actor was soon snapped sitting next to Rihanna, with the pair chatting away, after he seemingly asked to switch seats with his son.

The meme 23-year-old Maya shared was a throwback to this moment.

Featuring photos taken from the game, it read: "Happy Father's Day specifically to Ethan Hawke making his son switch seats with him so he could get at Rihanna." Ouch!

As she shared it on Instagram Stories, Maya simply wrote, "Happy Father's Day dad."

The internet lapped up the hilarious comment and kept the shade coming.

"Happy father's day to ethan hawke only because he had maya hawke," one user tweeted, while about while another wrote, "BYE MAYA HAWKE IS SO FUNNY FOR THIS."

However, it's possible Hawke found the funny side to his daughter's tribute as back in 2019, he addressed the viral courtside outing.

"Yes, my son and I remember this GREAT night," he joked when asked about the moment on Twitter. "His version is a little different than mine."

Hawke shares Maya and Levon with his ex-wife, actress Uma Thurman. The couple were married in 1998 after meeting on the set of Gattaca two years prior, but split in 2003 and were officially divorced in 2005.

That same year, Hawke began dating nanny Ryan Shawhughes, who he and Thurman had hired to look after their two children.

Both Hawke and Shawhughes have repeatedly denied rumours they had an affair while he was still married to Thurman.

In 2008, he married Shawhughes and together they now share daughters Clementine, 14, and Indiana, 11.
