Paying tribute to the women who have influenced them, Mark said he had hoped it would be another girl.

"When Priscilla and I first found out she was pregnant again, our first hope was that the child would be healthy," The Facebook CEO, who is worth 76.7 billion AUD, posted on his site this morning. "My next hope was that it would be a girl. I cannot think of a greater gift than having a sister and I'm so happy Max and our new child will have each other.

"I grew up with three sisters and they taught me to learn from smart, strong women. They weren't just my sisters but some of my best friends."

The entrepreneur has openly discussed the struggles he and his wife of four years have had trying to start a family. Priscilla had three miscarriages before finally giving birth to Max.

"After our difficult experience having Max, we weren't sure what to expect or whether we'd be able to have another child," he continued in the post.

Mark previously spoke about the couple's heartache in 2015. "You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child.

"You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience."

Today, Mark's sister Randi commented on her brother's post, writing: "What a beautiful post! We are thrilled for you and so glad that more strong, smart, kind women will be in the world!! (glad you didn't mention how we also occasionally made your life miserable growing up! #truesisterjob)"

"We can't wait to welcome our new little one and do our best to raise another strong woman."

"You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child. You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience."

Mark and Priscilla first met while students at Harvard in 2003 and tied the knot in a low-key backyard wedding in 2012.
