Lorde's real age revealed: Check out her birth certificate!

There's a whole bunch of sceptics on Twitter who believe Lorde is not actually a teenager. So here's her birth certificate to settle this discussion once and for all…

According to the certificate obtained by thehairpin.com, the double-Grammy winner was actually born in Takapuna, New Zealand on November 7, 1996. So, for all the doubters out there, it's official, Lorde IS 17.

But that still doesn't stop the New Zealander from taking the mickey out of the rumours.

"Hi, I'm Ella," she told Vanity Fair recently. "And I'm actually 45."

Of course she's kidding, but we'd be forgiven for believing she's older after telling Rookie magazine that The Virgin Suicides (released in 1999) "really resonated with [her] as a teenager", before correcting herself with "I mean, I am still a teenager".

Whether you believe it or not (and a birth certificate is pretty darn good proof!), her awards scoop at this week's Grammys was a massive achievement for a teenager! Watch her humble acceptance speech for Song of the Year below…
