Lorde apologises after posting 'extremely poorly chosen' Whitney Houston lyrics on a bathtub photo

Lorde has angered fans by posting a Whitney Houston lyric next to a photo of a bathtub, later saying she failed to realise the allusion to the singer's death.

"And iii will always love you," Lorde, 21, captioned a photo of a bathtub full of water, quoting Houston's iconic '90s hit.

She was presumably about to get into the tub on her day off from the Melodrama World Tour in the US.

Houston drowned at the age of 48 in a hotel bathtub at the Beverly Hilton in February 2012.

Her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown also died after overdosing in a bathtub in 2015.

The Kiwi singer's photo was flooded with angry comments demanding she delete it. The image remained up for an hour, before Lorde deleted and wrote an apology on her Instagram story.

"Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote," she wrote to her 6.1-million followers. "I'm so sorry for offending anyone - I hadn't even put this together I was just excited to take a bath.

"I'm an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again."

She then added, "It's not my fkn day today," alongside the head exploding and crying emojis.

However, the damage was done, and the internet exploded in fiery Whitney-defending glory.
