Lisa Curry recalls Dawn Fraser lovingly advising her to 'move on' as she continues to mourn daughter Jaimi

Lisa Curry has shared the advice fellow Olympian Dawn Fraser gave her as she continues to mourn her daughter, Jaimi Kenny.

Speaking on the Jonesy & Amanda radio program today to promote her book, 60 years of Life, Love and Loss, Curry recalled the words of wisdom the 84-year-old told her recently about grief. 

After telling hosts Brendan 'Jonesy' Jones and Amanda Keller that she no longer wanted to "dwell on everything that's sad" because Jaimi would have wanted her to live her life and be happy, Curry said Fraser's advice echoed her own sentiments.

'I bumped into Dawn Fraser the other morning, and she said, 'Lisa, you've just got to move on. You've just got to move on,'" Curry recalled. 

And while the advice may seem forward to many, the 59-year-old said she knows Fraser meant well and she replied: "I know, I know. It's just hard to do."

Jones sympathised with the grieving mum, saying that while it's "a simplistic approach" to move on, "there's nothing wrong with grieving, living in the moment".

"You will get past this because you're a strong woman," he told Curry, who replied: "It's one day after another. There's not one minute of the day when I don't think of our daughter."

Jaimi – who Curry shared with ex-husband, ironman star Grant Kenny – died in September 2020 at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a long battle with illness. She was 33. 

This week, in another interview with Australian Story, Curry said she and Kenny were lucky enough to be there for Jaimi's final moments. 

"If it's any consolation, we were able to be with her when she took her last breath," she said on the ABC program. "We were there when she took her first breath, and we were there when she took her last."
