Lily Collins' dating history: Everything we know about her past relationships

Lily Collins once said she was reluctant to discuss her personal life because of her parents' highly-publicised divorce when she was a child.

"My family went through a lot of very public situations and I saw that side of it from a young age," the actress — who is the daughter of English musician Phil Collins and American actress Jill Tavelman — told The Belfast Telegraph in 2013.

"My mum raised me to be normal, and I wanted to grow up and find out who I was and who I wanted to spend time with before anyone else did."

Collins was true to her word, rarely opening up about her love life — until now.

The Emily in Paris star is newly engaged to her partner Charlie McDowell. But it took her a few attempts at love before she met her fiancé.

Charlie McDowell

Collins appeared to confirm her relationship with McDowell on August 20, 2019. She shared several Instagram photos with the English actor.

A year later and the lovebirds announced news of their engagement.

"I've been waiting my lifetime for you and I can't wait to spend our lifetime together," she wrote on September 25.

McDowell, 37, captioned his post, "In a time of uncertainty and darkness you have illuminated my life. I will forever cherish my adventure with you."

Collins said during an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, that she was confident she would marry McDowell.

"I was very surprised as to when and where it would happen, but it was one of those situations where I knew the second that I met him that I wanted to be his wife one day," Collins said.

Chris Evans

Collins met Chris Evans in 2015 when she attended the Vanity fair Oscar Party. By March, Us Weekly had confirmed they were an item.

"It's just the beginning stages," a source told the publication at the time. "But they're having a lot of fun and seeing where it goes."

Thomas Cocquerel

In 2014, Collins dated Australian actor Thomas Cocquerel.

In February of that year, they were seen having dinner at Craig's restaurant in West Hollywood. Days later, they were holding hands at a basketball game between Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.

Us Weekly confirmed they were dating when an insider said, "They just started seeing each other. A friend introduced them. It's new. He is an all-around great guy. She's happy."

They seemingly split within the same year.

Zac Efron

Collins was spotted on a number of dates with actor Zac Efron between 2012 and 2013. A fan snapped a photo of them strolling through Disneyland hand in hand.

Despite the rumours, neither of them ever confirmed the relationship.

They would eventually reunite onscreen for the Netflix series Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

Jamie Campbell Bower

In 2012, Collins struck up a romance with her The Mortal Instruments co-star Jamie Campbell Bower.

They split a year later, but briefly reconciled in 2015.

Taylor Lautner

Collins met Taylor Lautner when she was filming the movie Abduction in 2011.

While the former couple never addressed the relationship, their co-star Denzel Whitaker spilled the beans at a movie premiere for Warrior.

"It's kind of like that teenage love in high school," Whitaker said. "It was kind of like, 'Let's go on a date.' They were willing to go bowling. It wasn't all about the relationship, it was more about having fun with each other and I think any time that's the premise of your couple, it's going to go great."

In September 2011, E! Online reported they had gone their separate ways.
