The world was left shocked upon the news of One Direction star Liam Payne's death on October 16, following a third-floor balcony fall from a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Now, his ex-fiancée Maya Henry has broken her silence on his death and shared a heartbreaking and lengthy statement to Rolling Stone about their relationship.

The American model and influencer, 25, and the British singer, who died at the age of 31, are believed to have dated on and off from 2019 to 2022, but were first linked back in 2018.

Payne was in a relationship with girlfriend Kate Cassidy before his death.

It was reported the singer had multiple drugs in his system at the time of his death, according to toxicology results.

"This was someone I loved very much," Henry said in a statement to Rolling Stone.

"Initially, it was the drug use and addictions that tore us apart."

"While I loved him deeply, he did things that hurt me in ways I'll never fully understand, and he continued to hurt me years after we broke up.

"On drugs, he became someone unrecognisable – so different from his sober self," she alleged.

Henry said in her statement that she "felt defrauded" once they had broken up and said: "I stood by him in his darkest moments..."

She also alleged he also partook in "nonconsensual image sharing" from their time together.

Henry's lawyers issued a cease and desist letter to Payne before his death after he kept contacting her following their split, with her lawyers confirming the news to MailOnline with a statement back in October.

She also wrote a book called Looking Forward, based on a girl who falls in love with a band member.

It comes after Kate Cassidy broke her silence on his death in an interview with The Sun, saying she left Argentina before his death to take care of their pet dog back in the US.

"Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end. Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina."
