'She did not like me': Kevin Bacon reveals he didn't make a great first impression when he met his wife of nearly 40 years

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been together 39 years now, but according to the Footloose actor it definitely "wasn't love at first sight".

Appearing on the latest episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Bacon revealed the duo had met almost a decade before they fell in love, and he didn't make a great first impression.

The actor said "many years" before he and Sedgwick appeared in Lemon Sky together, he was "doing a lot of off-Broadway" plays, one of which a young Sedgwick attended with her mum.

"I was 19, so she was 12, I think," Bacon recalled.

"Her mum had seen me in some plays off-Broadway and she knew that little 12-year-old Kyra wanted to be an actor and she said, 'You know, there's this actor that I think you should go see."

So, Sedgwick's mum took her to see a play Bacon was in.

The mother-daughter duo attended the matinee performance, and coincidentally when Bacon went to a nearby deli for lunch in-between shows, Sedgwick and her mum were there too.

"I was buying a sandwich in the deli around the corner, and this 12-year-old girl came up to me and said, 'Hi, I liked you in the play," Bacon remembered.

"According to her, I said, 'thanks sweetie' – you know kind of misogynistic."

Almost 10 years after that fateful run-in, the duo were cast in the 1988 film Lemon Sky.

Sedgwick was 21 and Bacon 28, and while many think theirs is a typical story of co-stars falling in love, Bacon explained that their story is actually more akin to that of enemies to lovers.

"She tells the story that when we first met doing Lemon Sky she said, 'You know we met in the village after that play that time, do you remember that?' And I went, 'Yeah, I do remember that' and she went, 'Really?' and I went, 'No"," he laughed.

"So, she did not like me. It was not love at first sight."
