Kendall Jenner accused of 'ruining the environment' after celebrating 24th birthday at race car track

Kendall Jenner has a need for speed, but some of her social media followers aren't catching her drift.

The reality star-turned-fashion model celebrated her 24th birthday on November 3 with friends and family by taking their luxury cars to the race track and trying some Fast and Furious-worthy moves.

Jenner shared Instagram photos and videos of the high-octane occasion. "Yesterday we all took our cars to the track and I learned how to drift," she captioned the post, adding a smiley face emoticon.

In one clip, she sat in the passenger side of a Rolls Royce convertible as a pro stunt driver intentionally oversteered while maintaining control of the car — also known as "drifting" — causing plumes of dramatic smoke as the tires screeched across the asphalt.

Big sister Kim Kardashian shared a gorgeous sunset video of Jenner behind the wheel herself, zipping down the track like second-nature.

And while many of Jenner's 118 million Instagram followers were mesmerised by her latest adventure, some pointed out the potential harm to the environment the stunt caused, given the petrol emissions, as well as the general expense to rent out a race track.

"Productive day ruining the environment," one follower commented.

Added another: "We have 11 years to reduce global emissions by 50 per cent."

"Them tires cost a few student loans," another person wrote.

Despite the naysayers, does Jenner see a future career in race car driving? Perhaps not. In a May 2019 interview with Vogue Australia, she said she didn't have a Plan B if modelling doesn't work out.

"No. And I don't think I necessarily needed to have one," she said of her decision to pursue modelling full-time.  "Anything I do, I always want to be 100 per cent in it and know I want to be doing it. When I started I was so young, so if it didn't work out then I was going to figure it out. I'd cross that bridge when I got there."
