This TV host's son brought a book about a stripper pole to school: 'I became THAT mum'

Parenting rule No. 42746: Don't let your child bring a book about stripper poles to school.

Unfortunately for American talk show host and soap star Kelly Ripa, her son did just that.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Kelly, 46, recalled an uncomfortable parenting moment with her then nine-year-old son.

"I have a bone to pick with you about a book you sold on our show," she told the late-night host.

Kelly explained that Stephen's 2012 illustrated book, I Am A Pole (And So Can You!) caused drama for her dyslexic son Joaquin, now 13, who innocently took the book to class one day.

"He goes to school where the primary focus of education is really learning how to read," she said. "If you master so many books, you can bring in a book of your choice, and the teacher will read the book out loud to the class."

But the session didn't go according plan.

"He sends it back to me and says, 'The teacher wouldn't finish reading the book,'" Kelly said.

The reason: The book is about a pole trying to find its purpose and one line - accompanying a graphic image of a stripper dancing on the pole - reads,  "I interned as a stripper pole but I couldn't stand the grind."

Although Joaquin's teacher sent the book home for being totally inappropriate for nine-year-olds, Kelly looks back on that day fondly.

"This is still the greatest school memory we have," she said. "Nowadays, parents are so careful and they're so good at parenting and I became that mum."
