Kanye West 'not actually' the richest Black man in America

Kanye West isn't actually the richest Black man in America, despite recent reports.

A Bloomberg report said the rapper's label Yeezy was worth US$4.6 billion (approx. $6 million), and multiple outlets claimed this made him the richest Black man in the US.

However Forbes says this isn't true. The outlet estimated his net worth at US$6.6 billion (approx. $8.5 billion) when his net worth is actually US$1.8 billion (approx. $2.3 billion).

"On Wednesday, multiple outlets reported that Kanye West is the richest Black person in America, worth as much as $6.6 billion," Forbes said.

"Based on our calculations. Forbes estimates he's worth less than a third of that, or $1.8 billion. That's a big jump from last May when Forbes first pegged his net worth to be $1.3 billion, but nowhere near as much as the purported $6.6 billion."

Forbes clarified that Robert F. Smith from investment company Vista Equity remains the richest Black person in the US, worth an estimated US$6 billion.

West has been critical of Forbes in the past, calling them "cold."

"My most favorite white supremacists is Forbes," he said in an interview with Nick Cannon in September last year. "Because, bro, I just gotta, like, respect. They gangster, bro. They don't live in 2020. They act like it's 1800s, still."

The 'Famous' singer also has a small stake in soon-to-be-ex-wife Kim Kardashian's company Skims, which is reportedly worth US$64 million (approx. $82.7 billion).

Kardashian filed for divorce from the rapper in February, after almost seven years of marriage.

The former couple share four children: North, seven, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, 20 months.
