Jude Law has signed on to play a young Albus Dumbeldore in the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The award-winning actor will star as the famous wizard long before he became the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry headmaster. Set decades before the Harry Potter books and movies, the story will show Dumbledore during his time as the school's transfiguration professor.

David Yates is returning to direct the sequel and Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Newt Scamander alongside Johnny Depp playing villain Grindewald.

"Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I'm looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him," David told Variety. "I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life."

Fans are extremely excited about Jude's announcement, with many taking to Twitter to discuss young Dumbledore being "hot".

In 2007, J.K. surprised fans when she announced that she always felt that "Dumbeldore was gay".

"Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald," she revealed. "That that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was."

J.K., who made her screenwriting debut for the first Fantastic Beasts film, has written the script for the sequel.
