John Farnham celebrates birthday milestone after confirming he'll never sing in public again

John Farnham has received an outpouring of love for his 77th birthday, after confirming he would never sing in public again following his recovery from mouth cancer.

The Aussie music legend’s son James shared a heartwarming tribute featuring a photo of Farnham and his one-year-old grandson, Jett.

“Happy birthday, Grandpa! We love you so much,” James shared.

“Thank you for everything and being who you are.”

James’ post attracted more than 700 comments, as fans shared their own wishes for the You’re the Voice singer.

The photo offers a rare look at Farnham, who confirmed in May it was “just not possible” for him to to sing or perform in public again following mouth cancer.

“We can rule that out,” the Aussie music legend, who left the spotlight in 2022 following his cancer diagnosis, told the Herald Sun.

“Because of the surgeries to my mouth and face over the past few years, singing on stage is not something I can consider again.”

Farnham’s comments – marking his first interview in four years – came alongside the announcement of a star-studded tribute show in his honour.

Megastars including Celine Dion, Hugh Jackman, Richard Marx, Jimmy Barnes and Keith Urban will unite for The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend, to be held in Melbourne in September.

The concert will raise funds for Head and Neck Cancer Australia, which supported Farnham through his cancer fight.

Following his cancer diagnosis, Farnham underwent a 12-hour surgery in 2022 and later had facial and jaw reconstructions.

He confirmed he was cancer-free in August 2023, exactly one year after the surgery.
