Aussie star and '60s singer John Blanchfield dies aged 79 as his heartbroken family pays tribute

Aussie star and '60s singer John Blanchfield has died, his family has confirmed.

They shared a heartbreaking tribute on Blanchfield's Facebook page, alongside some candid photographs of the musician over the years, revealing he passed on Wednesday.

In his final moments he was surrounded by "music and good people," the family said, but did not reveal exactly how he died.

He was 79 years old.

"It's with great sadness, love and pride that we let you know that our darling husband, Dad, Paree, and friend, John Blanchfield, grabbed his hat and got out of here on Wednesday," they wrote in the public post.

"John's great loves were music and good people, and his days were filled with both until the last moment."

The family received numerous messages of condolences underneath.

"A true gentle man," a friend wrote in part of a message underneath.

"John leaves a great legacy in the Australian music industry.. but his greatest loves are always family.. Patti Blanchfield, Lauren, Kate and his sons in law and his beloved grand kids."

Another added: "OMG. Went on many tours with John. A great singer/ entertainer etc. I just know he'll be rocking upstairs."

He went by the name (and spelling) Jon Blanchfield during his music career and is known for songs including Son of a Simple Man, She's My Baby and Lavender Girl.

Blanchfield also had ties to The Bee Gees.

The song recorded by the late star, Town Of Tuxley Toymaker Part 1 for instance, was written by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb.
