Jim Carrey's unexpected but brilliant talent will blow you away

If you’ve been wondering what Jim Carrey has been up to these days, we have the answer.

The 55-year-old recently appeared in a mini documentary called I Needed Colour, where he showcased his impressive talent as an artist.

The video, which was uploaded to Vimeo four weeks ago and has racked up 4 million views, shows the actor’s array of exceptional paintings and sculptures.

Jim revealed he picked up painting six years ago as a way to heal a broken heart.

"I found myself looking around at one point in a really bleak winter in New York and it was just so depressing, and I think I needed colour," he says.

"When I really started painting a lot I had become so obsessed that there was no where to move in my home. Paintings were everywhere.They were becoming part of the furniture, I was eating on them. If you’re a fan of more than just Jim’s goofball comedy, then you might have already known about his artistic talent.

In 2012, he held an art exhibit called Jim Carrey: Nothing to See Hear where had some of his pieces on display.

In the documentary, Jim explains that the colour in his paintings are often a window to his soul.

"You can tell my inner life by the darkness in some of them", he says. "You can tell what I want from the brightness in some of them."

The Liar Liar star has been mostly hidden from the public eye since the 2015 suicide of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White.

He is due to face trial for her death after her mother claimed Jim provided the prescription drugs that killed her daughter.
