The GQ Men of the Year Awards took place last night with Jason Momoa and Zendaya taking out the top titles in front of a star-studded audience.

The Aquaman star was recognised not only for his contribution to film, but also the way he's been using his celebrity to impact changes around the world — the 40-year-old recently spoke about the need to take action against climate change at a recent United Nations summit.

"Never in a million years did I think I would be the 2019 GQ International Man of the Year, it's a true honour," he said via video link at last night's event, before joking, "Unfortunately, I've only got a month left to enjoy my crown. But I'm really stoked that I got to beat all the Hemsworths because… You know… I finally deserve this."

In his speech, the actor added that he had fallen in love with Australia while filming Aquaman on our shores back in 2017.

"Also, Australia, you know I love you," said Momoa, who starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the film. "I hope I get to come down there for Aquaman 2 and thank you very much for this. Yeah, mate!"

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Homecoming star Zendaya was also honoured at the ceremony, with the actress crowned the GQ Woman of the Year.

"Woman of the Year — that's kinda crazy considering I'm 23 years old and I'm just trying to figure out how to become a young woman myself," she told the crowd which consisted of a string of stars, including Baz Luhrmann, Sophie Monk and Julie Bishop.

"It's a huge honour," Zendaya added. "I feel like… sometimes, you forget to just kind of stop and take in moments like this. Sometimes I work so much, I forget about life."
