Jaden Smith just took Met Gala accessorising to a whole new level.

The 18-year-old sported a buzz cut and carried his recently shorn dreadlocks in his hands like a clutch as he walked the carpet at the annual New York City fashion event.

Fans on Twitter were divided over Jaden's daring Met Gala look.

"I think Jaden Smith carrying his cut-off hair in his hands as an accessory wins the avant-garde prize of the #metgala night so far," posted New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman.

While @Four_Pins wrote, "Somebody’s gotta say it maybe jaden smith is actually too woke for his own good."

But the teen rapper had at least one superstar fan in his corner: Lorde.

"Wow coolest thing i've seen in ages love some freaky victorian goth hair usage," the New Zealand-born singer replied to a photo of Jaden at the event.

The son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith made headlines last month when he had his dad shave off his signature locs for his upcoming movie role in Life In A Year.

"Getting Jaden Smith ready for the first day of filming #LifeInAYear," Will captioned photos of the event on Facebook April 12. "Maybe I should’ve used scissors?!"

The Karate Kid star's other Met Gala accessories to complement his knee-length black coat and platform patent-leather boots included a gold grill and thick gold necklace.

The theme of this year's Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is designer Rei Kawakubo and the "art of the in-between". So, Jaden kind of nailed it?
