Idris Elba joins Sydney band Lime Cordiale on stage for a surprise show

Idris Elba sent fans into a frenzy after making a surprise appearance during a live gig at Sydney's Enmore Theatre last night.

The British actor, 48, joined Aussie band Lime Cordiale on stage for a collaboration performance of their song 'Unnecessary Things', plus his own rap verse to a new, unreleased song.

Aria Award-winners Lime Cordiale have just finished up their Relapse Tour in Australia amid the release of their new studio album 14 Steps to a Better You (Relapse).

Meanwhile, Elba is currently in Sydney for the production of his upcoming role in the George Miller movie Three Thousand Years of Longing, as well as his rumoured return as Heimdall in Thor: Love and Thunder — alongside other Hollywood stars like Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon and Natalie Portman.

It comes after several film and TV productions set up production in Australia — both this year and last year — thanks to our relatively low number of COVID-19 cases and the government's $400 million Location Incentive which is designed to encourage film productions to film here.

Earlier this month, the Luther star was spotted at an '80s themed birthday bash with Hemsworth and Damon. Hemsworth, 37, shared a series of photos from the star-studded event as they partied on a rooftop in Sydney.

"A little '80s themed party never did any harm! Happy birthday, @azzagrist," Hemsworth captioned a slideshow of images featuring his brothers, Luke and Liam, wife Elsa Pataky and Elba.
