Ian Thorpe and boyfriend celebrate one-year anniversary in the Whitsundays

Helicopter rides, seaplane flights and private pools with a view: Ian Thorpe and his boyfriend Ryan Channing aren't holding back on the luxury on the islands of the Whitsundays.

The five-time Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer and his law student/model beau are celebrating their one-year anniversary together with lavish stays on Hamilton and Hayman Islands.

Ian, 34, and Ryan, 27, have been sharing shots and clips on their Instagrams from their stays at the uber-exclusive five-stars resorts Qualia (on Hamilton Island) and The One and Only (on Hayman Island). Judging by the picture-perfect photos, these two are having the best time ever.

They're getting quite used to the jetsetting life, it seems. In the past year, they've had holidays in Europe, the US, the UK, Japan, Bali, and Brazil.

Last November, Ian even told The Sunday Telegraph he's planning to move to Paris with Ryan, who had accepted a year-long internship in the City of Love.

It's not known whether those plans will go ahead, though, as Ian told news.com.au last week that he's happy to be back in Australia after living between LA, Switzerland and home.

"I don't have plans to live abroad. Australia is home. I'll continue travelling, but it's nice being back in Australia…back home," he said. "The lifestyle here is unique and I think – that when you travel a lot – you appreciate it even more."

Ian and Ryan have pledged their support for marriage equality, and hope parliament allows a free vote on the issue soon.

"I hope there's a free vote in the parliament and I hope that it's proposed before Mardi Gras," he added. "It's a cause I really want to fight for. It will happen…I just want it to happen far more quickly than it is."
