Home and Away appear to cut a second gay scene between beloved lesbian couple Alex and Willow

Channel Seven has come under fire after a gay kissing scene was allegedly edited out from an episode of its long-running soap, Home and Away — and apparently this wasn't the first time it has happened.

The scenes both involve characters Alex (played by Zoe Ventoura) and Willow (Sarah Roberts), a lesbian couple who are so loved by audiences, they've been dubbed #Willex.

This week, photography agency Matrix Media Group released still images showing the couple kissing in a park as they filmed scenes. But the footage that was recently aired to audiences showed no kiss being exchanged.

Although Channel Seven told the ABC that the discrepancies are down to "human error" made during the "post-production process", actress Ventoura took to Twitter to acknowledge the disappointment of LGBTQI+ fans and assure them that they handled the storyline with the utmost respect.

"To the #willex fans; Please know that every scene was written, performed and shot with the utmost love and respect for the characters, the relationship and the community. We see you, and we are grateful for your support. Much love x," she tweeted.

Ventura's husband, TV personality Daniel MacPherson, also empathised with the LGBTQI+ community.

"Obviously for many reasons I'm closer to this than most so I'm just gonna say this: Thoughts tonight with fans of this show left feeling that the demonstration of their love or affection isn't worthy of broadcast," he wrote on Twitter. "Well done ZV & SR on your beautiful work."

It was late last year that the first discrepancy was brought to light by eagle-eyed Twitter fans who noticed that a kissing scene between Alex and Willow aired in New Zealand, but the same scene was cut for Aussie audiences.

"Weird that it's an Australian show but only show it in NZ, what's that about? ... I hope it's not homophobia, but it's not the whole storyline, I really don't get it," wrote one user.

"I think it's very shady at best and starting to push towards homophobic at worst. That extended scene after Willow tells Alex she's so worth it was integral to the storyline. It made no sense whatsoever to cut that," wrote another.
