Hilary Duff separating from husband after three years of marriage

Hilary Duff and husband of three year Mike Comrie are joining the ever increasing list of Hollywood celebrities breaking up in the New Year.

The singer and Comrie, a former hockey pro, released a statement over the weekend saying they had "mutually decided [upon] an amicable separation.”

A rep for Hilary, 26, added: "They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.”

The former couple got hitched in 2010 and had their first child 21-month-old son, Luca Cruz in early 2012.

A source close to Duff told People, "There was no major incident…no big event between the two of them. They really did drift apart. They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples therapy, but in the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends. And they really are great friends."
