"I feel incredibly grateful for this kind attention, but to be clear, I'm also quite humbled," Ford said in his speech.
"I'm in a room of actors, most of whom are here to receive a prize for their amazing work. While I'm here to receive a prize for being alive.
"In my third year of college, I was a little lost... I was failing at school, I felt isolated and alone, and then I found a company of people who ran plays: storytellers.
"People I once thought were geeks turned out to be my people. I found a calling."

The pair started dating in 2002 at the 59th Golden Globes. Ford was 60 years old, while Flockhart was 38.
The actor caught Flockhart's attention after accidentally spilling his wine on her dress mid-conversation.
Flockhart said the comical moment sealed the deal for her, with the pair marrying in 2010 after seven years of dating.

"I'm in love. Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love, and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life," Ford said in a 2003 interview.
"I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn't surprised that I did."
Ford, who was already a father of four from two previous marriages, adopted Flockhart's son Liam.
The actor got his big break in Hollywood as Han Solo in Star Wars, which shot him to international fame.
He went on to star as the lead in the Indiana Jones franchise and dozens of other hit films like Blade Runner and The Fugitive.
Flockhart is also an actress, starring in the TV series Ally McBeal.
