It's not an Emmys red carpet without Giuliana Rancic –– but this year, it'll have to go ahead without her.

The veteran E! fashion reporter was slated as co-host of E!'s Live From the Red Carpet multi-platform coverage of the Emmys but she's had to pull out at the last minute after a positive coronavirus test.

Rancic was conspicuously absent from the pre-show coverage, but popped up in a pre-recorded video to let audiences know why.

"As I go into my 20th year on the E! red carpet I have to say I do not take missing an award show lightly, but unfortunately this year is just so different," she said.

"I did find out that I tested positive for COVID-19. Now as much as I didn't want to hear that, I'm very thankful I heard it before I travelled and possibly could have exposed other people. So for that, I'm thankful."

Rancic went on to say that she and her family are feeling fine. "As far as my health, I'm doing well. My husband Bill and our son also did test positive, but we're all doing well and taking care each other so I'm going to get back to doing that."

In a wild turn of events, Rancic's would-b co-host, Vivica A. Fox, also announced that she'd tested positive for the virus. E! co-host Brad Goreski, who took over Fox and Rancic's duties broke the news of Fox's positive result.

This year's Emmys will take place virtually, with stars dialling in via video chat to accept their awards. Presenters, dressed in creepy dystopian-looking hazmat tuxedos, will deliver the trophies to winners' doors.
